It
was 9:02 PM September 2nd 1999 when, I brought up the
idea of a TeenBeat tribute album to the list. To be quite
honest, I don't recall writing or sending that e-mail;
it wasn't until exactly five months later on February
2nd, 2000 when Kent Burt (The Linger Effect) asked, "what's
up with the TeenBeat covers disc/ tape/ whatever??"
that the compiling of the songs that would make up Amateurs
on Plastic began. Completed and released in April of 2002
and now available
for free download on Netlabels.
As we begin compiling tracks
for a second volume to commemorate the 20th Anniversary
of Teenbeat Records, it seems only fitting to return to
tribute tracks, and what better a way to introduce it
than with a track that was submitted for the first compilation.
Kent Burt, of The Linger
Effect, was among the first to submit a track, sending
in a version of Unrest's "Laughter"
(Link goes to MP3 - lossless FLAC available here),
along with a version of Grenadine's "Don't Forget
the Halo". Though "Laughter was ultimately choosen
for the compilation, this track "recorded while suffering
from a horrible flu" is still quite a nice track.
The Linger Effect are already
signed up to take part in the next volume of the tribute,
submitting a cover of Flin Flon's "Leading Tickles."
I am also pleased to announce
that The Linger Effects next CD will be released in the
next month or two by My
Mean Magpie and contains a cover of Kevin Hewick's
"Haystack."

Effect please visit their

Note:
"It was recorded on the worst 4-track from hell and
I couldn't hold a note thanks to this stupid cold I had,
hence my heaping on the reverb. It was fun playing the
middle section. Horrible sour note near the end thanks
to the guitar going out of tune.
Apologies
to Mark, Jenny & Rob."
