This
is the fourth entry in the series of hidden tracks. This
week focuses in on the unlisted tracks.
There are a number of reasons
for issuing a CD with more tracks than are listed on the
enclosed artwork and they are as follows:
1. Production time. Simply
the artwork is produced before the CD itself is finalized
and a few extra tracks are added to the CD at the last
minute. This may be the case here as our very own list
member Andrew Russ made a request for the tracks off of
the difficult to obtain Make Out Club Remix 7" (TB126X)
two of which appear on this CD
2. Aesthetics. Quite simply
preferring to list 12 tracks rather than 13, to avoid
the appearance of a "long-album." This can also
happen when the CD contains more tracks than the LP and
the artwork for both editions is reproduced exactly as
is and enlarged (or reduced) for use on the second format.
3. To hide a cover version.
There are a few reasons to hide a cover version but in
this case it is likely because the song was simply a throwaway.
Previously unreleased this
song is Unrest bassist Bridget Cross playing the opening
riff to Styx' "Come Sail Away," from their 1977
album The
Grand Illusion.
At about 40 seconds this
is the shortest MP3 to have been posted, without including
a second track. However, the question of "What is
the last track on B.P.M.?" comes up from time to
time on the list, and why not answer it again here?
