MARK E "Lost Innocence" [Section 25] (Teenbeat 37)

The Mark E 7" was created as "New Years gift release no. 3 * for friends" in 1989. The first 250 copies were released in 1989, and almost a year later (11/30/90) a second and final pressing of 300 were released.

This is mostly a solo outing by Mark E (aka Mark Robinson) of Unrest, though he recruits the help of Dave Park (Eggs) and Phil Krauth (Unrest) to add some drums to the project.

The 7" itself is a bit scattered and sloppy, interspersing experimental tracks, short guitar riffs, and a few cover songs. Most of the memorable songs reappeared on Fuck Pussy Galore (& All Her Friends) (TB 67 / Matador OLE-024).

The track appearing here as "Lost Innocence" is actually a cover of Section 25's "There was a Time" from The Key of Dreams (FBN 14) originally released by Factory Benelux in 1982.

And, rather that attempt to explain the Section 25 release now, that will be NEXT weeks MP3.

Update: Thanks to the questions of Andrew Russ [in these here brackets], Mark was kind enough to give a track by track rundown on the 7"... here it is:

1. Nineties Go Time Salsation [Mark raps "It's the 90s"]
"The music is "Milkshake" by the Village People."

2. She Makes Me Free To Be Me [great mellow song, somewhere between "Christina" and "She Makes Me Shake Like a Soul Machine" but less histrionic]
"Outtake from Unrest 'Kustom Karnal Blackxploitation' album."

3. So Movie Star [Could be a Malcolm X Park outtake. loud & fast]
"Yes, an outtake from Unrest 'Malcolm X Park'. It is on the CD reissue in its original sequenced spot."

4. The Equator of Her Navel [spoken word and droning organ. A key
track.]
"Jungle George and the Plague. This track did not 'get' JGATP on the label, Teenbeat co-founder Andrew Riley (Beaujon) was in this band,
so they were a shoe-in."

5. Teen Beat Theme ["Teen Beat" like on the cassettes]
"Another 'Kustom Karnal Blackxploitation' outtake. I think this is also on Teenbeat 50 comp."

6. Sammy's Mean Mustard [a few seconds of flamenco]
"Another 'Kustom Karnal Blackxploitation' tune."

7. Lost Innocence [Mark singing over drums]
"Another 'Kustom Karnal Blackxploitation' tune. This is a cover of the Section 25 song."

8. Neues Forum [Could be an instrumental Malcolm X. Park outtake]
"Another 'Kustom Karnal Blackxploitation' tune."

9. Greg Hershey Where Are You? [very short acoustic interlude (c.f.
"Ragged (Clthd Hsbnd)"]
"Another 'Kustom Karnal Blackxploitation' tune. Dave Park wrote and played this one. Boy, that 'KKB' album sure could've been a heck of a lot different if we had put some of this stuff on it."

10. Vive la France [Some old French record (voice and piano) that skips
a few times and is then faded out]

EACH WEEK (OR TWO) THIS SPACE WILL CONTAIN A TEENBEAT RARITY, COVER SONG, LIVE TRACK OR FILE RELATING TO THE MUSIC OF THE TEENBEAT LABEL. Please support the works of the artists by purcahasing through TeenBeat.
