| ROBERT SCHIPUL "Further Away"
(The Unlike Label ULL015) |
Earlier this
week, I got the news that The
Unlike Label will be shutting down.
The Unlike Label with its founder Sammy
McKee helped to release many fine records by La Cerca,
grant and Embers is Sammy. He was also instrumental in
the release of The Teenbeat Tribute CD co-releasing it
with My My Magpie records, and let's face it, shelling
out the bulk of the money.
Sammy has also been responsible for releasing
several tracks by bands on TeenBeat through three annual
CD compilations with exclusive tracks by +/-,
Tracy Shedd and
Robert
Shipul.
When Robert joined the Teenbeat roster
(as Ascension) in 1996 he was "a mere fifteen-years-old"
and was a refreshing addition: just piano and voice.
Robert would release one 7" and one
CD (under his own name) on Teenbeat, and a treack on the
2000 and 2001 Teenbeat compilations. In 2001 he also self-released
Everything Always Stays The Same The More You Want
It To Change (Starlet Records 07) and there were
plans to release his third full-length A Safe Way
to Sound on The Unlike Label.
I'n unsure of the reasons for the label
folding but I wish Sammy the best in what he chooses to
pursue and thank him for helping to share some wonderful
music.
