This morning
one of my cats, Jean Clutha (cryptically named after author
Janet Frame) was playing in my room this morning, tearing
about. It's unusual for her because she mainly just sits
around in close proximity to her food bowl awaiting a
pat on the head or a scoop full of cat food to be dropped
in her bowl. But I managed to drift off to sleep again...
A few minutes or hours later — who
can tell? The skies are grey and wintery — I awake
to find Jean sitting on my bed claning herself with her
rubber mouse toy, I started to close my eyes when I noticed
that her toy had grown a new tail. I looked a little closer
and only then did I notice the wet fur, half-shut eyes
and red puncture wounds.
I quickly got up and carefully used a
piece of paper to scoop the body into an empty smartie-sized
box and carefully threw it in a garbage bag hanging on
the back of my door.
Later on, after getting over the initial
(but minor) shock — I still wasn't sure whether
to reward Jean or not. I decided to do nothing, but I
am suprised she turned out to be a mouser; my guess would
have leaned more towards ottoman — I walked into
the kitchen to find two more mouse bodies.
Though, I couldn't think of a topical
mouse-related rarity in the Teenbeat catalogue to commemorate
the event, I was reminded of this song from the Japanese
release of Uncle Wiggly's Jump Back, Baby (100
Guitar Mania). This song also appears on Make You
Crawl 7" (Dark Beloved Cloud DBC014).
Next week I will be away in NYC, so I
will not be posting an MP3 next week. Dissapointed? Don't
be, instead click here.
