THE MAGIC MIRROR "Today it is My Birthday" [Synthetic Socks] (MMM 16 / ULL010)

Like the song says, "Today it is My Birthday," so I choose a song that relates both to the list and me personally.

The Magic Mirror wasGregory VanHausen on rhythm guitar and harmonica, Molly Lamont on drums, Neil Hamilton on lead guitar and D. Ross Lederman on bass. Since recording this song, Molly has moved onto the Rosenstiel School of Marine and Atmospheric Science where she is studying Marine and Atmospheric Chemistry, and Greg got married and moved to Kent, MI. Neil and Ross are currently experimenting with electronic music under the band name prePrionic.

Current Lake Holiday frontman Brad Davis was in the town of Lansing to help The Magic Mirror record their never-released EP and during a break recorded this track by Synthetic Socks for the Teenbeat Mailing List Tribute CD. She had Brad record the vocals after only two listens and Molly thought, "he did a straight-up job."

According to the Synthetic Socks (TB 15) cassette itself, “Aaron Freeman & Synthetic Socks were chosen from 7 or 8 demo tapes” that were received by TeenBeat. In 1987, the debut cassette from Aaron Freeman (who later went on to form Ween) was released.

The track was recorded on Molly's birthday (Feb 14th 2001) in East Lansing, MI by the Debris Mobile Unit.

Amateurs on Plastic was given the honourary TeenBeat discography number 344
