"Saturnine was another short-lived band - a temporary
project that brought together Richard Balayut from Flower and
Fontaine Toups for the first time. This cassette marks a point
when our entire outlook on what music could be changed. Soon after
Saturnine, Richard and Fontaine formed Versus." —

Not to be confused with the other Saturnine
(who were originally Saturnine 60), this version was a short-lived
band formed after the demise of Flower.
Just before Flower broke up they were joined by member Fontaine
Toups,
Fontaine grew up in Beaumont, Texas, a long way from New York
City where she would be introduced to Baltimore born Richard Balyut.
Though in high school, Fontaine (not called that at the time),
joined the school's dance team and performed in Houston's Astrodome.
But Fontaine's real desire was to be in a rock band and while
in her first "band" she choose the nickname "Fontaine."
Richard on the other hand, moved from Baltimore to NY to attend
New York University, and by the time he graduated had formed Flower
with his brother Ed Balut.
By the time they broke up in 1990, Richard had been introduced
to Fontaine through the band met the lovely Texan, Fontaine through
mutual friends, Nice
Strong Arm, an Austin band that had also moved to New York.
Fontaine was around for the breakup of Flower and remained with
Richard for the single cassette duration of Saturnine before the
duo formed Versus (borrowing the name from an LP by Mission of
Burma) with Baluyut's brother, Ed.
