| SCALEY ANDREW "C.O.T.G.
/ Lights are Changing" (TB 83) |
This
week pretty much all of the populated bits of Ontario,
were left in the dark as
three transmission lines in Cleveland Ohio, as at
least 500 megawatts of power reversed
directions.
Though most of Toronto was
back up in running I was in one of the few pockets downtown
that had none until today. However the stars were beautiful
and
the streets were dark. I think I may have seen more
than I ever have. The fact that it happened in city limits
is pretty incredible.
So rather than the song I was going to
post I searched through a stack of cassettes and dug up
Scaley Andrew (operating now without Mark
Nelson and by now just an outlet for Andrew Beaujon's
Eggs
demos) doing a cover of The
Bevis Frond's "Lights are Changing from their
third album Triptych.
(for those who care
Mary Lou Lord also has a version of this song).
Rather than try a fancy fade in I left
the experimental song "Convocation of the Gompa"
that opens the cassette as a lead in. It's 2m 27s long
so if you want to skip ahead I won't mind.
From the Liner Notes:
"I'm not sure of all the artists
I sampled or completely ripped off for this project. I
hope no-one's offended. Remember, it's just for fun. On
the first song, Rudolf Greg,
L'Orchestre de la Garde Republicaine, Astrud
Gilberto and Nation
of Ulysses are all pretty heavily bitten! The next
song is a Bevis Frond cover. I wish I were a good enough
guitar player top do it justice."
