| AIR MIAMI "Nicola
Six" (TeenBeat Promo Cassette) |
If you think
this song sounds remarkably familiar, take a listen to
Flin Flon's "Swift Current" released almost
four years later. Though it's switched around a bit and
"Swift Current" is missing the lyrics "Power
Generator."
Air Miami, formed in 1994 following the
dissolve of Unrest and with an almost obsessive focus
on Miami. (It should be noted that Air Miami is a fictional
airline.) Though the initial lineup disbanded after only
six months, former Unrest members Mark Robinson and Bridget
Cross would go on to record one album for 4AD
before putting the band on permanent hiatus.
"Nicola Six" (named after a
character in Martin Amis' novel London
Fields) is among the earliest recordings of Air Miami
while bassist Lauren Feldsher (Viva Satellite) and drummer
Mike Fellows (Silver Jews) were still in the band.
From the Liner Notes:
"One of Henry
Hohauser's first hotels was the little Colony, built
in 1935 at 736 Ocean Drive. The facade was a victim of
inappropriate brick veneering, but the lobby remains one
of the District's prizes with its fireplace faced with
green Vitrolite and a Diego Rivera-like mural by Ramon
Chatov."
