"You
say, when it comes to business, I don't know shit..."
— Andrew Beaujon
Andrew Beaujon has a curse.
I was visiting Washington DC and bought
this 7" in 1997 at Go! Compact Discs, just weeks
before the Indie-Rock Flea Market. Discovering I had missed
it, I bought the 7" which had Andrew Beaujon (of
Eggs, Scaley Andrew, Woman in Rock, Jungle George and
the Plague, and even for a time Unrest fame) making his
solo vinyl debut. As I walked out of the store, I figured
I'd catch it next time.
Well, Go! Compact Discs closed and there
never was another Indie-Rock Flea Market.
Fast forward to 1998 in New York, Andrew
is playing a haphazard and wonderful set at CMJ's Teenbeat
night. Andrew dedicates "Angry Canadians" to
me and he is sitting at the back selling 12" copies
of his Morning EP. Not wanting to carry it around,
I pass on it and head home to Toronto.
In Toronto I check out Duck Suit Mailorder,
the company run by Andrew and (I think some of the folks
from Low) and awhile later I throw some money (well concealed)
in an envelope and order the Across My Bow 7"
and the Morning EP. A few months later I write
to Andrew and he says that he's moved and hasn't checked
the PO Box in a few months. I never did get those records.
And finally, PAL-Mailorder. They were
one of the few places that carried the Women in Rock Click
and Drag 7" released in 1998. I placed an order
with them, they shut their doors and the 7" never
came.
Like I said, a curse.
