| BLAST OFF COUNTRY STYLE "Standard
Green (live)" (Oct 11, 1994) |
Before I get
to anything about the music, I'd like to first extend
my apologies to Evelyn (pictured left) for the use of
this photo hidden deep within the pages of The
Galaxy Hut Online (a place where Evelyn used to work).
That being said...
This track was recorded during the Teenbeat
Circus Tour on the same bill as Air Miami, Eggs and Cath
Carroll. Blast Off Country Style were bringing their show
to a close at The
Bottom of the Hill in San Fransico, California, when
they broke a string. Upon recovery they broke into a great
version of "Standard Green".
A bit quirky they would play the second
stage at Lollapalooza in 1994, sharing the stage with
Stereolab, and Lambchop, and opening the event from NYC
to Charlotte.
Though the following description is
about a different show (sometime in 1993) it may well
apply:
"BOCS were tremendously
funny, interesting, bizarre. Chris Callahan's impersonation
of Mark E. Smith was great, and I can't believe that Evelyn's
voice is that high! The matching cheerleader outfits (for
the girls) and rose-colored, Texas-shaped sunglasses (for
the guys) were an added bonus." -- an old Teenbeat
intern posting on an early version of the indiepop list
as "The
Stupidity Patrol"
