| THE RONDELLES "I
Melt With You" (Cheap Date / Rhino R2 75551) |
This song is
almost a request. Last week it came up on the
indie-pop list and rather than dig through the archives,
I thought I would present this track, which does not appear
on any Rondelles CD.
The Rondelles present a wonderful version
of
Modern English's biggest hit (featured in the movie
Valley
Girl), I Melt With You.
Modern English formed as The Lepers in
1979 and after the addition of a band member and a name
change were signed to 4AD (who also signed Teenbeat's
Unrest).
On their second album, Modern English would achieve their
greatest success with this song. Though Modern English
still releases records to this day none have come close
to the same commercial success. "I Melt With You"
was revived in the 90's in a Burger King Ad.
From the Liner Notes:
"Hey, kids, stopping the world may sound like a great
romantic idea when listening to "'I Melt With You,'
but wait! What our English friends simply have in mind
is loss of gravitational equilibrium between the earth
and the sun. This is going to cause the earth to burn
in a hellish firestorm. You should know better."
