THE MELBA "Make Me a Wish" (Jiffy Boy 001)

When Plus/Minus came to Toronto as part of 2003's Over the Top Fest, it seemed only fitting to dig into the early vaults of James Baluyut and post this MP3 prior to the show.

Had I not been looking carefully, I would have missed this pre-+/- project from Ten Cent Fix a compilation which also included early tracks by The Grifters, Viva Satellitte, and The Lilys among others.

If you think this track is similar in sound to earlier Versus tracks, this may have something to do with the bulk of the early Versus tracks being recorded by James, reflecting a similar aesthetic.

The Melba included Drew Peters on drums, Mark Dumdon on bass, and James Baluyut on guitar and vocals. They apparently released two cassettes (Demo and Ropeburn) along with a 7" (Medinine) on the Skillet label (possibly self-published?) sometime prior to 1993.

Then they disappeared...
