| Grenadine "Don't
Forget the Halo" (TB111/ Simple Machines SMR022) |
This
is the first MP3 in the ever continuing Teenbeat MP3 of
the W—. The 'W' stands for "Whenever."
MP3s will be posted here on a random basis interspersed
within the reposts. To be in the know, join the Teenbeat
Mailing List.
This weeks posting comes
thanks to Matthew who, while in the process of transferring
vinyl to a digital format noticed a "hissy"
quality had developed in Grenadine's "Don't Forget
the Halo" 7" (TB 111). The likely culprit: the
custom clear vinyl sleeve.
It was suggested that using an ion or anti-static
gun may clear away the static, a better solution was
made available through the 1994 Wakefield Boxset (Teenbeat
1881) which contained both tracks.
"Don't forget the Halo", a song penned-by Jenny
Toomey, was reissued on Volume 2 of Wakefield on a disc
called Hai Communist Tart. 600 copies of the
disc were bundled into the limited boxset, 400 copies
of the disc were sold exclusively in Japan by 100 Guitar
Mania (now defunct).

From the liner notes:
This moody acoustic lounge trio
consists of Jenny from Tsunami, Rob from Eggs and Mark
from Air Miami. The Magazine - CMJ said: "Mark's
voice has slightest hint of Wham!-era George Michael
So Mark better hurry and buy some tight fitting shorts
for extra sexual appeal, and perhaps get himself a musical
partner with little talent and even less hope for advancement!"
The liner notes were written by 100 Guitar
Mania's Fumio Furukawa, with English Translation by Yoko
and Daniel/Yasuyo. As the CMJ quote makes absolutely no
sense, I assume it was translated into Japanese and then
back to English.
Mark asks to, "Please direct all
complaints[ about the 7"] to the Simple Machines customer
service department." |
